Zimbabwe is a talented nation that is only lacking in
opportunities. That with enough exposure and experience we would be able to
produce quality music that can be seen nationwide. I remember when I was a child we would all
sit around the television waiting for our favourite music show Sisonke Mix to
start. Songs like, “Uhamba nobani” by PO ZEE and Sikhu would be broadcasted and
we would all stand up and dance. I believe that such talent still exist in
Zimbabwe that if our singers were given such an opportunity and well groomed we
would have the number one hit song coming from Zimbabwe.
In Western countries upcoming artist are given a chance to
prove themselves and show the world what they are made of in shows like the
X-factor. Where by the judges are professional singers who also train the
artists during the course of the competition. The winners are given record
deals with well-known companies thus they are set for life. If Zimbabwean
artist were to be given such opportunities we would be a step ahead from the
rest of the world. As the artists would be groomed by Legendries’ like Oliver
Mutukudzi, who has toured the world and
is well respected.
Artist should be groomed
both professionally and financially. It is disheartening and
painful to note that most of our talented
artist have gone six feet
down the grave, dying in absolute poverty devoured by ravages of HIV/ Aids. Popularity should not go up to their heads but
they should be moulded
into very disciplined individuals
who should understand themselves and carry themselves well
in order to rise high and live longer.
Today I advocate for the same opportunity for Zimbabwean
artist who have talent but at the same time need a push in the right direction
from the experienced singers.
i totally agree with you there is indeed so much talent in zimbabwe take for example we have Oliver Mtukudzi who is a legend in his right and he has collaborated with the worlds best, he has this song called "kupedza nguva" where he collaborated with south african jazz sensation, Judith sephuma. we also have the likes of Prudence Mbofana, Dudu Manhenga and my personal favourite, Chiwoniso Maraire. We have the likes of Audius Mtawarira who is now based in Australia, Kudzai Sevenzo and DecibeL, speaking of decibel, the guy is really talented and back then i was young to understand what he was singing about but now when i listen to his music i get goosebumps. We also have Mkhulili Bhebhe who is now part of the joyful Joyous Celebration and i must say he is really flying the Zimbabwean flag up high.
